Natural Births Better for Babies

Babies born by caesarean section are more vulnerable to asthma, allergies and infection as they miss out on receiving their mothers' good bacteria during birth, a scientist says.

Professor Patricia Conway, of the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of NSW, said babies delivered vaginally received protective bacteria as they passed through the birth canal.

Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs shared a secret with his audience at a technology conference outside Los Angeles Tuesday: The idea for the iPad came before the iPhone.

The idea to ditch the keyboard for what Jobs calls a multi-touch display came about in the early 2000s, although the company was working on a telephone at the time, he said.

It depends on the vegetable. "Cooking destroys some nutrients, but it releases others," says Marion Nestle, author of What to Eat. It destroys vitamin C and folic acid, according to Nestle, which is why it's not a great idea to cook oranges.

On the other hand, she says, cooking releases vitamin A and the nutrients in fiber and makes them easier to digest. It's also easier for your body to absorb more lycopene, a cancer-fighting antioxidant, in cooked tomato sauce than from raw tomatoes.

Survey: British People are the Worst-dressed Holidaymakers

British people are the worst-dressed holidaymakers in Europe followed by Germans, while the Italians and French are the smartest, according to a survey released on Friday.

The findings came despite 36 percent of Britons -- who are famed for fashion blunders like wearing socks with sandals -- admitting that they dress more adventurously than usual while on a break.

The survey also looked at how good people from different countries are at switching off from the pressures of work while taking a break.

Mengidentifikasi Sperma Kwalitas Unggul

Para ilmuwan berhasil menciptakan metode tes sederhana untuk membedakan sperma yang sehat dengan sperma yang memiliki kerusakan DNA. Keakuratan tes ini diklaim mencapai 99 persen.

Metode tes tersebut menggunakan senyawa kimia yang ditemukan dalam membran sel telur manusia yang disebut hyaluronic acid. Cara ini telah mendapat persetujuan dari FDA (badan obat dan makanan AS) dan bisa meningkatkan peluang pembuahan pada bayi tabung hingga 30 persen.

Apakah Rambut Kemaluan Perlu Dicukur?

Menurut Guru Besar Andrologi dan Biologi Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia itu, umumnya pertumbuhan rambut akan terhenti setelah 2 bulan. Jadi rambut kemaluan yang sudah gondrong tidak akan bertambah gondrong terus meski tidak dicukur.

Namun rambut kemaluan yang tidak dicukur memang berisiko sebagai tempat berkembangnya bakteri jika tidak dibersihkan dengan baik. Tapi jika dibersihkan dengan benar, bakteri tidak akan berkembang di sana. "Seperti rambut saja, walaupun gondrong tapi kalau bersih, ya nggak masalah." katanya.
