Atlanta man wins $1 million lottery for second time in three years

A man in Atlanta has hauled in a million-dollar lottery payday for the second time in just three years.

Delma Kinney, 50, recently won a $1 million dollar prize playing the instant game Super Millions. In 2008, Kinney also won $1 million playing another instant game.

Kinney is a single father of three, who set aside part of his original lottery winnings to establish a college education fund for his children. Kinney says he plans to donate part of his new winnings to charity.

Just a week shy of his 51st birthday, Kinney says he purchased the winning lottery ticket at a local Chevron Food Mart when he headed out to grab some over-the-counter medications to help him cope with a head cold.

Move aside, Kate Middleton. Eat your heart out, Kim Kardashian. British socialite Petra Ecclestone has you both beat when it comes to over-the-top weddings. The Formula One heiress reportedly dropped an estimated $5 million to $7 million on her big day to wed businessman James Stunt in a three-day extravaganza in Rome.

Buzz on the Web was certainly big: Lookups on the extravagant bride increased 389% in just one day.

Still, the blonde heiress seems to be aware that she is blessed with good fortune, as it were. She told ABC, "I'm not spoiled, I'm privileged, and I think there's a huge difference in that."

The 22-year-old certainly knows how to live the good life: She is the daughter of billionaire Formula One CEO Bernie Ecclestone, who's thought to be footing the bill, and former Armani model Slavica Radic.

Steve Jobs Quits as Apple CEO

Tech industry legend and one of the finest creative minds of a generation, Steve Jobs, has resigned as chief executive of Apple, arguing he can no longer meet his duties and expectations to the company.

Apple's shares were suspended before the announcement but soon after dived 7 per cent in after-hours trade on the news that one of Silicon Valley's most celebrated luminaries, who was the beloved visionary behind the iPod, iPhone, iPad and Mac products, was bowing out for good.

Jobs, 55, who has been on medical leave due to an undisclosed medical condition since January 17, said in a letter to the Apple board of directors and Apple community that Apple chief operating officer Tim Cook would be his successor.

The pancreatic cancer survivor, who co-founded Apple from a garage and brought the company back from the dead when industry figures including Dell founder Michael Dell were arguing it should be broken up and sold off, said he had maintained he would let people know if there ever came a day where he could no longer fulfil his duties as Apple's CEO.

RAPBN 2012: Gaji PNS, TNI, dan Polri Naik 10 Persen

Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono mengatakan, pemerintah memberikan perhatian pada perbaikan kesejahteraan PNS, TNI, Polri, dan pensiunan.

Hal ini dikatakan Presiden ketika menyampaikan pidato kenegaraan dalam rangka HUT ke-66 Proklamasi Kemerdekaan RI di depan sidang bersama DPD dan DPR, Selasa (16/8/2011) di Kompleks Parlemen, Jakarta.

"Berkaitan dengan itu, Pemerintah dalam tahun 2012 mendatang berketetapan untuk menaikkan gaji pokok PNS, TNI, Polri, dan pensiunan sebesar rata-rata 10 persen. Pemerintah juga tetap memberikan gaji dan pensiun bulan ke-13 bagi PNS, TNI, Polri, dan pensiunan," kata Presiden.

Investor "Wait and See", Rupiah Naik Tipis

Faktor teknikal mendorong mata uang rupiah menguat terhadap dollar AS setelah pada pekan sebelumnya rupiah berada dalam area tren penurunan. Kurs nilai mata uang rupiah pada Senin pagi antarbank di Jakarta menguat tipis sebesar lima poin menjadi Rp 8.540 dibanding posisi sebelumnya senilai Rp 8.545 per dollar AS.

"Meski menguat tipis pagi ini secara teknikal mata uang rupiah akan menguat terhadap dollar AS setelah pada pekan kemarin nilai kurs rupiah berada dalam tren pelemahan," kata analis valas dari Samuel Sekuritas Lana Soelistianingsih di Jakarta, Senin.

Ia menambahkan, sentimen di pasar Asia yang kembali membaik memicu sebagian besar mata uang Asia menguat termasuk mata uang dalam negeri. "Pasar AS dan Eropa ditutup naik pada akhir perdagangan pekan lalu. Sentimen positif ini merembet ke bursa Asia hari ini, termasuk rupiah," kata dia.

Lebih dari 50 Persen Akses Internet dari Ponsel

Lebih dari setengah pengguna internet Indonesia mengakses melalui telepon genggam (HP). Demikian data awal dari Nielsen Southeast Asia Digital Consumer Report yang akan diluncurkan 30 September 2011. Saat ini, 53 persen pengguna internet Indonesia mengakses internet melalui telepon genggam.

Hal ini tidak lepas dari makin banyaknya jenis perangkat berbasis layanan seluler di Indonesia yang dapat mengakses internet. Tak ada data pasti jumlah telepon genggam yang beredar, tapi tahun ini jumlah SIM Card diperkirakan telah melebih jumlah penduduk.

Facebook Dekati Layanan Streaming Musik

Desas-desus soal kedekatan Facebook dan layanan streaming musik Spotify kembali terdengar. Kabar terbaru menyebutkan, raksasa jejaring sosial itu benar-benar akan menghubungkan Facebooker pecinta musik dengan Spotify.

Spekulasi mengenai hal ini kembali hangat dibicarakan setelah seorang blogger teknologi Jeff Rose mempublikasikan sepenggal kode untuk bisa melakukan unduh aplikasi bernama 'Facebook Vibes'.

Dilansir News Factor, rumor bahwa Facebook akan membuat layanan musik sudah bergulir sejak Oktober 2008. Kala itu Facebook mengomentari upaya MySpace yang membedakan dirinya di antara para pengguna jejaring sosial kalangan muda dengan layanan musik.

Microsoft Beli Skype 7 Miliar Dollar AS

Selangkah lagi, Microsoft resmi menjadi pemilik perusahaan internet telepon Skype Technologies. Rencananya, Microsoft akan mengumumkan kesepakatan pembelian tersebut. Nilai pembelian Skype tersebut diperkirakan lebih dari 7 miliar dollar AS atau sekitar Rp 60 triliun. Menurut situs web Wall Street Journal, angka pembelian itu merupakan salah satu nilai akuisisi terbesar yang dilakukan Microsoft dalam 36 tahun terakhir.

Microsoft dan Skype enggan menanggapi kabar akuisisi tersebut. Keduanya tidak mau berkomentar soal transaksi ini.

Skype didirikan pada 2003. Perusahaan ini kemudian dibeli eBay Inc pada 2005 seharga 3,1 miliar dollar AS. Tahun 2009 eBay menjual sahamnya ke Silver Lake, Badan Investasi Dana Pensiun Kanada, dan Andreesen Howoritz senilai 1,9 juta dollar AS secara tunai dan sebesar 125 juta dollar AS dengan surat utang. Namun, eBay masih menggempit sepertiga saham Skype.

Ever wonder why popcorn and the movies go together like Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio? Here’s a brief history of the duo.

Popcorn wasn’t introduced to the general public as a snack food until around 1840, when it first made appearances at fairs, carnivals, and rallies. In 1885, with the invention of the first portable popcorn machine, its popularity increased dramatically. Popcorn vendors followed the crowds, set up shop, and introduced popcorn neophytes to the joys of butter, salt, and crunch. It was a cheap and tasty hit.

The Great Depression set in, and profits dropped, desperate owners sought new ways to make money. They noticed how lucrative the popcorn business was and installed machines of their own inside. Soon concession stands were integrated into the designs of theatres. A movie and a bucket of popcorn became one of the main forms of entertainment for struggling Americans well into the 1930s.

RUU Mata Uang Muluskan Rencana Redenominasi Rupiah

Berdasarkan pemberitaan sebelumnya, Bank Indonesia (BI) telah mendapatkan 'lampu hijau' dari Presiden RI untuk melakukan koordinasi dengan pemerintah mengenai rencana redenominasi. Bank sentral optimistsis pembahasan redenominasi dengan pemerintah akan selesai sebelum akhir 2011.

Seperti diketahui, bank sentral mengagendakan proses redenominasi atau penyederhanaan nilai mata uang akan berlangsung selama 10 tahun.

Adapun tahapan redenominasi yakni

* 2011-2012 : Sosialisasi
* 2013-2015 : Masa Transisi
* 2016-2018 : Penarikan Mata Uang Lama
* 2019-2022 : Penghapusan Tanda Redenominasi di Mata Uang dan Proses Redenominasi Selesai.

Smartphones to Make up over Half of Asian Sales

Smartphones will make up over half of Asian mobile phone sales by 2015, with 477 million units likely to be sold, an industry report said Monday. Consultancy Frost and Sullivan said smartphones would account for 54 percent of the Asia-Pacific mobile market in five years, up sharply from five percent in 2009.

The sharp take-up rate for smartphones will be a huge revenue boost for telecom operators as it means a surge in demand for data services, the consultancy said. Smartphones are high-end mobile devices providing faster access to data connections such as e-mail and Internet browsing than so-called feature phones, which have less computing ability.

BP Oil Spill to Cost Britain Billions in Lost Taxes

The Treasury could be one of the biggest losers from the BP oil spill, it emerged today. The company has been one of Britain's biggest taxpayers, forking out an extraordinary £5.8billion to the Exchequer last year. But experts say its global tax bill could be slashed by £7billion over the next four years, including a big chunk which would have been paid in this country.

It is a major blow for public finances as the Government struggles to cut the nation's deficit. The drop in BP's tax bill is partly because its profits are expected to slump, resulting in a drop in its corporation tax bill.

Due to the Gulf of Mexico disaster, she predicts this will drop to £17.7billion, a fall of £7billion. Yesterday a BP spokesman admitted: 'The billions of dollars we are spending on responding to the Gulf of Mexico spill will clearly have a major negative impact on BP's profits, and so of course they will affect the taxes we pay.'

Pendapatan Sri Mulyani di Bank Dunia Rp 4,3 Miliar per Tahun

Menteri Keuangan Sri Mulyani akan segera menempati posisi barunya sebagai Managing Director di Bank Dunia. Di posisi terbarunya tersebut, Sri Mulyani akan memperoleh pendapatan hingga US$ 476.500 atau Rp 4,3 miliar per tahun.

Hitung-hitungan pendapatan Sri Mulyani ini diperoleh berdasarkan laporan keuangan Bank Dunia tahun 2009.

Pengunduran Diri Sri Mulyani Bisa Sejukkan Politik Nasional

Meski agak disayangkan, pengunduran diri Sri Mulyani sebagai Menkeu RI patut dihargai. Besar harapan ini akan mampu menjadi faktor penyejuk hubungan pemerintah dengan parlemen terkait dinamika Pansus Bank Century.

"Mundurnya Menkeu bisa menjadi faktor penyejuk politik nasional," kata Ketua FPD Anas Urbaningrum melalui telepon, Rabu (5/5/2010).

KPK Belum Berencana Periksa Boediono Lagi

Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi atau KPK belum menjadwalkan kembali untuk meminta keterangan Wakil Presiden Boediono terkait kasus dana talangan Bank Century sebesar Rp 6,7 triliun.

Hasil pemeriksaan terhadap Boediono pada Kamis (29/4/2010) lalu, dirasa penyidik KPK masih mencukupi.

"Sampai hari ini Pak Boediono belum akan dimintai keterangan lagi," kata Juru Bicara KPK Johan Budi, Senin (3/5/2010) di Gedung KPK, Jalan Rasuna Said, Kuningan, Jakarta.

Sri Mulyani Akhirnya Bicara

Menteri Keuangan Sri Mulyani Indrawati akhirnya tetap mewakili pemerintah dalam pembacaan pendapat akhir pemerintah terkait pengesahan Undang-Undang Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Negara Perubahan (APBN-P) 2010.

Rapat Paripurna DPR, Senin (3/5/2010), akhirnya dilanjutkan setelah sempat diskors selama lebih kurang 1 jam. Sebelumnya, rapat diskors untuk lobi fraksi setelah sempat memanas karena adanya penolakan fraksi terhadap kehadiran Sri Mulyani.
