President Barack Obama says he isn't worried about a recent poll showing that nearly one-fifth of Americans believe he is a Muslim.

Obama, who is a Christian, says "the facts are the facts." In an interview broadcast Sunday on "NBC Nightly News," the president blamed the confusion over his religious beliefs on "a network of misinformation."

Obama says he wouldn't get much done if he spent all his time chasing after rumors, like persistent accusations that he wasn't born in the United States.

The darkly intimate 1960s-era drama “Mad Men” and the comedy romp “Modern Family” were the top honorees at Sunday’s Emmy Awards as American life past and present proved a winning formula. “To our fans, we are so grateful, we are so thrilled that families are sitting down together to watch a television show, and we’re so happy that you have let us into your families,” said Steven Levitan, “Modern Family” executive producer.

The best comedy series award was the first for the freshman sitcom, which also captured an acting award for Eric Stonestreet and a best writing trophy. “Mad Men” earned its third consecutive best drama series trophy. Series creator Matthew Weiner seemed to take the night in stride.

Villagers Return to Slopes of Sinabung

Villagers briefly returned home Tuesday to check their farms along the fertile slopes of an Indonesian volcano that erupted after laying dormant for more than four centuries — catching many scientists off-guard. Betta Tarigan, a 48-year-old farmer, piled into the back of a crowded pickup truck and headed up Mount Sinabung early Tuesday for a look at his cattle and crops before heading quickly back to one of many emergency shelters along the volcano’s base.

White smoke poured from the mouth of the crater and the air was thick with the smell of sulfur. “There’s not going to be a harvest this year ... just look at these tomatoes,” Tarigan said sadly, pointing to fields covered in gray soot. “They are all going to die.”

The eruption of the 8,000-foot (2,400-meter) volcano on Sunday was followed by a much more powerful blast Monday, forcing the evacuation of more than 30,000 people and putting the region on the highest alert level. Some domestic flights had to be diverted because of poor visibility. Two people died, but Priyadi Kardono of the National Disaster Management Agency said it was too early to say if the volcano was to blame.

Penukaran uang di Bank Indonesia Jambi mulai marak pada awal pekan ini. BI melayani penukaran sekitar Rp 42 miliar dalam satu hari, baik untuk masyarakat maupun bank umum.

Pimpinan Bank Indonesia Jambi Iing Hasanudd in mengatakan, Selasa (31/8/2010), layanan penukaran diberikan baik kepada masyarakat maupun kalangan perbankan. Sepanjang Senin kemarin, dana yang te lah dipakai untuk layanan ini mencapai Rp 42,7 miliar, terdiri atas Rp 41 miliar untuk perbankan dan Rp 1,7 miliar bagi masyarakat umum. Jumlah ini diperkirakan akan terus bertambah.

Pemerintah di Meksiko telah memecat hampir 10 persen dari pasukan polisi federal saat Presiden Felipe Calderon berusaha untuk mengendalikan kartel obat bius yang berpengaruh dan mengekang korupsi yang meluas di antara para polisi Meksiko.

"Karena mereka telah gagal melakukan tugas-tugas yang ditetapkan dalam undang-undang kepolisian federal, 3.200 polisi telah dipecat," kata Wakil Kepala Polisi Facundo Rosas.

VW Bids for Alfa Romeo

According to reports from Europe overnight, senior Volkswagen Group officials have admitted a deal to buy the Italian brand from owner Fiat could be on the cards.

Despite an official denial from Fiat and no official comment from Volkswagen, German industry newspaper Automobilwoche carried a quote from an unnamed "high ranking" VW executive that claimed the German firm is definitely interested in acquiring Alfa Romeo.

"Alfa is a globally recognised brand with sporty genes and a great tradition," said Automobilwoche's VW insider. "If such a treasure could be had, we must not hesitate too long."

A Really Blue Movie

Avatar's eagerly anticipated re-release will be an even hotter ticket with previously unseen additions to the movie's love scene. The love-fest between Neytiri and Jake is one of the movie's scenes which will see significant director additions for the 3-D and 3-D Imax re-release on August 27 in the U.S.. The scene would not change the PG-13 rating for the movie.

Nine minutes of footage will be added to the blockbuster. Director James Cameron told MTV that this will include 20 seconds from what he joked was the 'alien kink scene.' Another added scene is one which Cameron calls 'the drums of war,' according to the New York Post. The scene further explains the human decision to wipe out the Na'vi which Cameron compares it to America's decision to invade Iraq.

Man Shot,Realises Five Years after

A Polish man living in Germany went about his business for about five years without noticing he had been shot in the head because he was drunk when it happened. Police in the western city of Bochum said on Tuesday that doctors found a .22 caliber bullet in the back of his head after the 35-year-old went to have what he thought was a cyst removed.

Presented with the 5.6mm projectile, the man recalled he had received a blow to the head about midnight at a New Year's party "in 2004 or 2005", but had forgotten about it because he had been "very drunk", a police spokesman said. "He told us he remembered having a sore head, but that he wasn't really one for going to the doctor," the spokesman said.

Paris Hilton had a terrifying start to the day when a man, she says was wielding two knives, tried to break into her home. Los Angeles Police Department rushed to the scene and arrested the man, who they later identified as Nathan Lee Parada.

He was subsequently booked on one count of felony burglary and is currently being held on $50,000 bail. The heiress tweeted a picture of the police at her home with Parada in handcuffs, along with the message: 'So Scary, just got woken up to a guy trying to break into my house holding 2 big knifes. Cops are here arresting him.' The incident occurred around 6.30 am this morning.

Gunung Sinabung Semburkan Debu

Gunung Sinabung di Kabupaten Karo, Sumatera Utara, Jumat (27/8) sekitar Pukul 20.00 WIB menyemburkan debu belerang.

Beberapa warga di sekitar Kecamatan Namo Terang menyebutkan, debu berwarna putih bercampur zat belerang tersebut menyembur berulang kali dari kawah Gunung Sinabung hingga radius puluhan kilometer. Beberapa jam sebelum peristiwa itu warga sempat mendengar suara gemuruh di sekitar puncak gunung tersebut.

"Kejadian seperti itu sebelumnya tidak pernah terjadi dan banyak warga sempat panik melihat semburan debu putih dengan bau belerang itu," kata Hardi, warga Desa Kuta Gugung, Kecamatan Namo Terang.

May Griffith dari Institut Penelitian Rumah Sakit Ottawa, Kanada, dan dokter bedah mata Per Fagerholm dari Universitas Linkoping, Swedia, berhasil menemukan kornea biosintetik. Kornea buatan yang berfungsi memperbaiki jaringan mata yang rusak ini dapat digunakan oleh orang-orang yang penglihatannya berkurang.

Kornea adalah lapisan transparan pada permukaan mata yang berfungsi menangkap cahaya yang masuk untuk diteruskan ke retina. Karena tipis, kornea mudah rusak. Penemuan ini memberikan harapan bagi jutaan orang di dunia yang masih menunggu giliran menerima donor kornea—yang jumlahnya memang terbatas. ”Kornea buatan itu dapat diintegrasikan ke mata asli manusia dan menstimulasi pertumbuhannya,” kata Griffith.

PlayStation 3 'hacked' by hardware crackers

A group of hardware hackers claim they are about to release the first product to allow gamers to play homemade and pirated games on the PlayStation 3. The PS3 is the only games console that has not been hacked, despite being on the market for more than three years.

Now a group called PSJailbreak says it will release a USB dongle containing software that allows users to save games to the console's hard drive. Sony, the maker of the PS3, declined to comment.

Smartphones to Make up over Half of Asian Sales

Smartphones will make up over half of Asian mobile phone sales by 2015, with 477 million units likely to be sold, an industry report said Monday. Consultancy Frost and Sullivan said smartphones would account for 54 percent of the Asia-Pacific mobile market in five years, up sharply from five percent in 2009.

The sharp take-up rate for smartphones will be a huge revenue boost for telecom operators as it means a surge in demand for data services, the consultancy said. Smartphones are high-end mobile devices providing faster access to data connections such as e-mail and Internet browsing than so-called feature phones, which have less computing ability.

Green leafy veg 'may cut diabetes risk'

A diet rich in green leafy vegetables may reduce the risk of developing diabetes, UK research says. In an analysis of six studies into fruit and vegetable intake, only food including spinach and cabbage was found to have a significant positive effect.

A portion and a half a day was found to cut type 2 diabetes risk by 14%, the British Medical Journal (BMJ) reports. But experts urged people to continue to aim for five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

Van Gogh painting stolen in Cairo

A Van Gogh painting worth $50 million has been stolen from a museum in Cairo, Egypt's minister of culture has said. The painting, known both as both Poppy Flowers and Vase And Flowers, was "cut from its frame" on Saturday, Farouk Hosni told the AFP agency.

Police are studying security camera footage and questioning employees at the Mahmoud Khalil museum, he added. The same painting was previously taken from the same museum in 1977, but recovered a decade later.

Blackberry Maker to Use Crusher Tank Technology in Tablet

Blackberry maker Research In Motion is turning to technology used in BMW audio systems and the Army's Crusher tank as it tries to distinguish its new tablet computer from Apple's iPad, said three people familiar with the plans.

The yet-to-be-announced tablet will run on software developed by QNX Software Systems. QNX's software is used in products from companies including Cisco Systems, General Electric and Caterpillar. RIM, based in Waterloo, Ontario, is racing to introduce its tablet as rivals debut similar devices that fill the gap between smartphones and laptops.

By using QNX technology, RIM could take advantage of the independent software developers who create applications for QNX and build on the popularity of its BlackBerry smartphone with corporate customers.

Couples who get to know each other before being intimate have a better chance of having a lasting relationship, but in some cases even a casual fling can lead to true love, according to a new research.

Most of the 56 percent of 642 adults questioned in the study who said they had waited until they got serious before they had sex reported having a high quality relationship. The number was higher than for the 27 percent of people who had sex while dating casually and the 17 percent who were intimate while in a non-romantic relationship.

"There's something about the characteristics of people who wait before sex that is linked to higher-quality relationships," said sociology professor Anthony Paik of the University of Iowa.

Hormones That Turn A Man into A Father

They have already tried to steal women's thunder by claiming sympathetic pregnancies. Now men are claiming fatherhood sends their hormones into a spin. Research shows that levels of oxytocin, the 'cuddle chemical' released into the blood during labour, also rise in new fathers.

Fatherhood also brings with it a surge in prolactin, a hormone more commonly linked to milk production in new mothers. Both hormones were traditionally thought to help mother and baby bond. But these studies suggest men benefit from them too.

Researcher Ruth Feldman said: 'This seems to be evolution's way of helping men turn into good parents as soon as they have a baby.

A former Israeli soldier posted photos on Facebook of herself in uniform smiling beside bound and blindfolded Palestinian prisoners, drawing sharp criticism Monday from the Israeli military and Palestinian officials.

Israeli news websites and blogs showed two photographs of the woman. In one, she is sitting legs crossed beside a blindfolded Palestinian man who is slumped against a concrete barrier. His face is turned downwards, while she leans toward him with her face upturned. Another shows her smiling at the camera with three Palestinian men with bound hands and blindfolds behind her.

Apple Manager Charged for Leaking Corporate Secrets

A manager at Apple has been charged in California with taking kickbacks he received after leaking corporate secrets to Asian companies that supplied iPhone and iPod accessories, court documents showed.

Paul Shin Devine, a global supply manager at technology company Apple since 2005, was accused by federal authorities of accepting kickbacks from six Asian companies. Authorities did not name the companies but said they were located in South Korea, China, Taiwan and Singapore.

Devine, 37, also faces a civil suit filed by Cupertino, California-based Apple, which accused him of receiving more than $US1 million in payments and bribes over several years, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

Bintaro Kena Banjir Kiriman 1,5 Meter

Selain melanda daerah Gandaria, luapan Kali Pesanggrahan juga menggenangi wilayah Bintaro hingga 1,5 meter. Banjir paling parah di sekitar Kompleks IKPN, Tanah Kusir yang lokasinya relatif lebih rendah dibandingkan daerah sekitarnya.

"Paling parah di Kompleks IKPN. Tadi yang sempat saya lihat mencapai 1,5 meter," kata Imam, salah satu warga kepada Kompas.com, Minggu (17/8/2010) malam. Ia mengatakan banjir mencapai puncak sekitar pukul 19.00 WIB, Selasa (17/8/2010) setelah hujan mengguyur wilayah tersebut.

Polisi Malaysia Sempat Tolak Bebaskan

Polisi Diraja Malaysia (PDM) sempat tetap ngotot tidak mau membebaskan tiga petugas Dinas Kelautan dan Perikanan (DKP) Indonesia yang ditangkap mereka. Bahkan mereka menyebut tidak bisa membebaskan petugas tersebut tanpa persetujuan dari pemerintah pusat di Kuala Lumpur.

Tim negosiator dari Indonesia yang dipimpin Happy Simanjuntak SH, Direktur Pengawasan Sumber Daya Perikanan dan Adji Nugroho Direktur Penanganan dan Pelanggaran Kementrian Kelautan dan Perikanan (KKP) bahkan sampai memberi pemahaman kepada Polisi Diraja Malaysia, bahwa sesuai dengan ketentuan hukum internasional (HI) tidak boleh menangkap aparat negara lain yang sedang menjalankan tugas.

Balotelli: Aku Bukan Anak Nakal

Striker baru Manchester City, Mario Balotelli, mengaku bahwa dirinya bukanlah anak nakal seperti yang selama ini dituduhkan masyarakat Italia. Menurut Balotelli, ia hanyalah pria normal seperti layaknya anak muda lainnya.

"Aku bukan anak nakal. Aku hanya seorang pria normal, tidak terlalu buruk atau baik," kata Balotelli saat konfrensi pers pertamanya sebagai pemain "The Citizens". Balotelli resmi pindah ke City sejak pekan lalu dengan dana transfer 22,5 juta euro (sekitar Rp 259 miliar).

Ba'asyir Akhirnya Keluar Sel Tahanan

Amir Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT) Abu Bakar Ba'asyir akhirnya keluar dari sel tahanannya, Selasa (17/8/2010) malam. Pimpinan pondok pesantren AL Mukmin, Ngruki, Solo bukan dipindahkan dari sel tahanannya di blok A-5 ataupun dibebaskan dari tuduhan terlibat kegiatan terorisme.

Namun, ini kali pertama ustadz itu keluar sel tahanan untuk kepentingan selain pemeriksaan oleh penyidik. Lalu kenapa Ba'asyir diperbolehkan keluar dari sel tahanannya itu? Ternyata Ba'asyir diizinkan buka puasa bersama dengan keluarga besarnya dan beberapa kerabat yang datang menjenguk sejak sore tadi. "Acaranya di dapur. Di luar sel," kata Hasyim Abdullah.

With BP Spill under Control, US Looks at Drill Ban

Now that the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history has effectively been stopped, the White House is considering an early end to its moratorium on deepwater drilling.

But four months after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon, regulators have only started to make good on promises to overhaul drilling. Tough measures are stalled in Congress. A $1 billion emergency response network proposed by the industry won't be operational for another year.

And while doomsday scenarios from the BP spill, like oil washing up the East Coast, have not come to pass, there are no guarantees that drilling will be any safer once it does resume. What's changed is "not enough to make a big difference," said Charles Perrow, a Yale professor who has studied the spill in the Gulf.

India May Shut down Google and Skype

India may shut down Google and Skype Internet-based messaging services over security concerns, the Financial Times reported on Friday, as the government threatened a similar crackdown on BlackBerry services.

The Financial Times quoted from the minutes of a July 12 meeting between telecommunication ministry security officials and operator associations to look at possible solutions to “intercept and monitor” encrypted communications.

India has set an Aug 31. deadline for RIM. It wants access in a readable format to encrypted BlackBerry communication, on grounds it could be used by militants. Pakistani-based militants used mobile and satellite phones in the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people.

Clue to getting a good night's sleep discovered

US researchers are a step closer to discovering why some people can sleep peacefully despite the noise of modern life.

A process in the brain plays a key role in blocking out sound during sleep, they say, and it appears to be more effective in certain individuals. It may be possible to boost this effect using therapy, drugs or electronic devices, says a Harvard team.

The research is published in the journal Current Biology. US researchers studied 12 healthy volunteers at a sleep clinic over the course of three nights.

Large waist size linked to 'higher risk of death'

Men and women with large waists are at increased risk of dying young, a US study has found.

This is true regardless of their body mass index (BMI), research published in Archives of Internal Medicine suggests.

But very high waist measurements equivalent to UK size 24-26 in women and XXXXL in men appear to double the risk of mortality.

For the study researchers tracked more than 100,000 men and women aged 50 and older over nine years.

Former Porn Actress Ruins Hewlett-Packard CEO's Career

The 50 year-old said on Sunday that she was “surprised and saddened” that Mark Hurd, 53, had lost his job following her allegations.

Mr Hurd, who had spent five years at the helm of the world’s biggest maker of personal computers and printers, resigned last week after an investigation into Ms Fisher’s claims uncovered irregularities in his expenses.

The probe cleared Mr Hurd, 53, of sexually harassing the actress, who was contracted to appear at events sponsored by Hewlett-Packard, but found he had submitted inaccurate expense reports to conceal a “personal relationship” with her.

Breaking The Naked Rollercoaster World Record

From bare nipples to white knuckles - more than 100 thrill-seekers rode a rollercoaster naked today. The 102 enthusiasts bared all to take their seats on the Green Scream rollercoaster at Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Organisers were hoping they had broken a new record after 32 attempted the same feat in 2004 at Alton Towers, in Staffordshire.

Organiser Tracy Jones said: 'We wanted to raise as much money as possible for this brilliant charity and give everybody who was brave enough, the chance to be part of the world record. Consequently, we had to run the Naked Rollercoaster three times.'

The ride took place at Adventure Island, raising money for Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation's Bosom Pals Appeal.

Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, pengasuh Pondok Pesantren Al Mukmin Ngruki, Solo, Jawa Tengah, tidak bersedia menjawab semua pertanyaan yang ditanyakan penyidik saat diperiksa di Bareskrim Mabes Polri, Senin (9/8/2010). Abu Bakar dicecar 41 pertanyaan sejak dibawa Tim Densus 88 Anti Teror dari Polresta Banjar, Jawa Barat, siang tadi.

"Abu Bakar ditanya seputar Aceh dan tidak bersedia menjawab dan nanti (keterangan) akan disampaikan di pengadilan," ucap Mahendra Datta, Dewan Pembina Tim Pembela Muslim, seusai mendampingi pemeriksaan, Senin (9/8/2010) malam.

Mahendra mengatakan, kliennya tidak terlibat dan tidak tahu-menahu tentang pelatihan militer kelompok teroris di Pegunungan Jalin, Jantho, Aceh Besar.

Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono tidak pernah memerintahkan Kepala Kepolisian Negara RI Jenderal (Pol) Bambang Hendarso Danuri untuk menangkap Amir Jamaah Anshorut Tauhid Abu Bakar Ba'asyir dengan tuduhan terorisme.

"Tidak ada perintah dari Presiden kepada Kapolri untuk menangkap Ba'asyir. Saat di Bandung, Presiden mendapat informasi adanya ancaman teror seperti itu kepada Presiden. Namun, tidak ada hubungannya ancaman dengan penangkapan tersebut. Jadi, tidak ada asumsi seperti itu dan sama sekali tidak ada desain untuk itu (memerintahkan menangkap Ba'asyir)," ujar Juru Bicara Presiden, Julian Aldrin Pasha.

Dalam penggerebekan orang yang diduga terkait teroris di sebuah rumah di Cibiru, Kota Bandung, Sabtu lalu, Tim Densus 88 Antiteror Mabes Polri menemukan "laboratorium" yang digunakan kelompok teroris sebagai tempat untuk merakit bom.

Kelompok yang masih terkait dengan kelompok teroris yang berlatih di Aceh Besar itu juga diketahui telah melakukan uji coba peledakan dua bom rakitan Kurnia Widodo di pegunungan di daerah Sumedang, Jawa Barat.

"Hasilnya (ledakannya) sangat dahsyat," kata Kepala Divisi Humas Mabes Polri Irjen Edward Aritonang di Mabes Polri.

Kereta Khusus Perempuan Beroperasi

Maraknya kasus pelecehan seksual yang terjadi di atas moda transportasi umum yang menimpa kaum perempuan tampaknya mendapat perhatian serius dari PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

Untuk mengantisipasi hal itu tidak kembali terulang, PT KAI berencana meluncurkan dua gerbong khusus perempuan dalam satu rangkaian kereta rel listrik (KRL) dengan rute Bogor-Jakarta-Bogor. Rencananya, gerbong khusus ini mulai beroperasi pada Kamis (19/8/2010) mendatang.
